Lastly, while reading the interview of John Cook on the Sweeping Zen site, his description of the other book of his caught my attention. Oh yes, the Western Chan Fellowship site has also a large number of stuff for Zen readers, more than 300 articles they say. These stuff range from interviews to recommended zen books to biographies of modern day Zen personalities. Lastly, I would like to introduce the Sweeping Zen website which has lots of stuff for Zen people to read.

But thought I should just write the review down before I finish the book lest I forget! Other than the koans, he has some poems which he has written which mirrors life’s occurances. Strangely, it has the full 70+ pages of the book available for view. I haven’t finished the whole book though as I was reading from the website which sells the book. Not really the heavy koans of the ancients, but light hearted ones that lets you ponder and reflect a little. I was reading the first 11 koans and they are really quite interesting. Ok, back to the book, this book is about events in John’s life that are a little koan like. The first being Master Ji Cheng, correct me if I am wrong. It says there that he is Master Sheng Yen’s first Western Dharma Heir and only the Master’s second Dharma Heir. I first came across him from the Western Chan Fellowship.

First and foremost, who is Layman John? In short, he is, John Cook, the head of Western Chan Fellowship and a Dharma Heir of the Chang Master Sheng Yen.
